COOL Gonna sell my old sunglasses Down at the salvage store Give away my leather and my blue suede shoe I don't need em anymore I got something that makes me shine Like a diamond in a pile of coal Hotter than a pistol, Pretty as a picture Sweeter than my rock and roll Chorus: I'm cool, yes I am Even when I'm fast asleep I'm cool, you know it's true And It's the company I keep If things get any better Don’t know what I’m gonna do I'm cool, yes I am Since I hang around with you You’re a wax & buff & polish I’m a ’63 Corvette You’re a jump shot at the buzzer Hittin’ nothin’ but the net You got me shinin’ like a neon light I’m happy as a man can be It's time I told the whole wide world Baby, what you do to me Chorus Instrumental Bridge: I’m cool I’m cool I’m cool I'm just so freaking cool!

BEFORE IT FADES AWAY (Irving-Simbeck) We go where we want to go. G We see what we will see. C And the rules that we don’t follow. G Are the ones that set us free C [D] behind this heart of wonder [Em] There lies an open mind [C] Between the secrets and the lies [D] The truth is ours to find Chorus: [Cmaj7] Wondrous colors [G] Gentle breeze [F] this one and only [Em] day [Am7] Fill your sails with your own dream [D] Before it fades away [Cmaj7] Before it fades away No matter who we travel with We take each step alone And the paths we are not taking Are the ones that lead us home Looking for a better world’s Beside the point somehow The magic land we’re headed toward Is where we are right now

Worry 04:37
Worry (Bruce Irving) Saw the sky holding back a tear Distant thunder I could barely hear No time to worry No time to worry No time to worry No time to worry Felt the wind blowing back my hair Storms are brewing everywhere No time to worry x4 Chorus Worry can’t be real Got to think before I feel Find myself in simple pleasures Worry can’t be real It’s alright to feel a little doubt No one knows what it’s all about No time to worry x4 Bridge Got a lot of dreams and promises to keep Got a lot riding on a good night’s sleep No need to know where that other road led Lazy morning sun to clear my head Chorus

about

These mostly upbeat songs were much inspired by a songwriting workshop I attended last year with Over the Rhine on their farm in Ohio. Those few days with a small group of diverse and talented songwriters encouraged me to take a fresh look at my writing. Additional inspiration came from my friend and frequent co-writer Rob Simbeck and from my wife Betty. And also from rediscovering open D tuning!

The "cool" cover art by Craig Collins illustrates my long, slow music "career" starting with the pictured 1973 single (remember 45s?) "Rolling" (by me) b/w "Born & Raised on Rock & Roll" (by Rob Simbeck). The hippy guy is not Weird Al, it's me in 1973. The other face is me now, more or less.
